Primary School

Enroll in school

You have a free choice of schools within the public schools. This means you can choose to enroll your child in the school district where you live or in another school district within the municipality.

Children start school the year they turn 6. The first day of school may vary, depending on the institution you choose. Enrollment happens in January (with NemID) and you should receive an invitation to enroll from the school in your district.

If you arrive with children already in the school age, you must contact the school directly to enroll your child.

You can find a list of the schools in Vejle through here (you can use the language option in the menu to translate).

What happens in a Danish school?

The schools in Vejle and the rest of Denmark have a strong focus on inclusion and community. The schools work with teaching children skills for the 21st century and some schools have a special focus on entrepreneurship thinking.

If you are curious about the details of the Danish school life, you can explore the site, which is aimed at parents with a non-Danish background with children in the 0-3rd grade. It is in Danish with a built-in translation function. Here you can find information about what goes on in the school, what your child will learn and also about the social life of the school.

What is expected from you

The school values your participation as a parent. It is expected that you show up for meetings with other parents and/or the teacher(s), and it is also important to show up for social events to be part of the community around your child.

To give your child the best possibilities for learning, it is expected that they bring a good lunch for the school day, that they have a pencil case with pencils and an eraser, and that they have warm clothes for being outside.
It is expected that you check the online communication platform (forældreintra/AULA), to keep updated on the schedule and activities in the school.

Some schools will expect you to provide your child with a digital device/PC. Vejle has a Bring Your Own Device policy, so the school does not provide a device for each pupil. If you cannot provide your child with a device, please contact the school as they may lend a PC to your child.
